A lash lift & tint is a cosmetic procedure designed to enhance the natural eyelashes by curling, lifting, and tinting them for greater definition. The lifting solution reshapes the lash structure, while the tint deepens the colour for a mascara-like effect. The procedure usually takes around 50-60 minutes and the results last on average 6-8 weeks depending on lash growth cycle. A patch test is required at least 24-48 hours prior to treatment to check for sensitivity to the lifting and tinting solutions.
Expected benefits:
Lashes appear longer, darker, and more defined without mascara or extensions.
Low-maintenance results lasting 6-8 weeks.
Water, sweat, and smudge resistant after initial 48 hours.
Natural enhancement - makes the most of your existing lashes.
A lash lift and tint is a relatively safe and low risk procedure, but there are potential risks and side effects. These include (but are not limited to):
Common
• Mild eye irritation, redness, watering, or stinging during of immediately after treatment. These symptoms should naturally settle after 2-3 days but could last longer.
Temporary sensitivity around the eyelids.
Dryness or brittleness of lashes after processing.
Less common
Uneven curl, over-processed lashes, or tint fading sooner than expected.
Temporary swelling or itching of the eyelids or skin around the eyes.
Lash shedding if natural lashes are weak or if aftercare is not followed
• Rash or skin blistering.
Rare
Allergic reaction to lifting or tinting solutions (even after patch testing). This often presents as a red, itchy rash with swelling but very rarely you could develop a severe allergic reaction or anaphylaxis. In the event of an anaphylactic reaction you would need emergency medical attention.
Eye infection if aftercare is not followed or if the eye area is rubbed/scratched.
Long-term lash damage (weakening or breakage) if repeated treatments are performed too frequently.
Other rare complications of lash lift and tint include skin infection (cellulitis) or contact dermatitis. Contact dermatitis is a more prolonged skin irritation and inflammation as a reaction to the solutions used.
Dermatitis presents as sore, reds inflamed, dry, blistered or cracked skin. In the event of such reaction contact your practitioner and avoid any further treatments. You may also need to seek medical advice through your GP. Eye infection, irritation, chemical burn or abrasion injury can occur if chemical lotions or other products accidentally come into contact with your eyes/cornea. If severe injury occurs, then corneal scarring could lead to blindness in extremely rare cases. If you sustain an eye infection or injury then you should seek urgent medical attention.
