Laser Tattoo removal

Laser tattoo removal is a safe and effective method of breaking down tattoo ink particles in the skin using high-intensity laser light. The body's natural immune system then gradually removes these tiny ink fragments, causing the tattoo to fade over a course of treatments. A consultation and patch test is required before full treatment can be commenced.

Frequently Asked Questions

laser tattoo removal

How does laser tattoo removal work?

Laser tattoo removal uses high-intensity laser light to break tattoo ink into tiny particles within the skin. These particles are then gradually removed by the body’s natural immune system, causing the tattoo to fade over a course of treatments.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on factors such as tattoo size, ink colour, depth, location, and your skin type. On average, 6–12 sessions are recommended for body tattoos and 3–6 sessions for cosmetic facial tattoos, with treatments spaced at least 8 weeks apart.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

Some discomfort is expected and is often described as a sensation similar to an elastic band snapping against the skin. Treatments are quick, usually lasting 5–20 minutes, depending on the size of the tattoo.

Can all tattoos be completely removed?

Complete removal is possible, but cannot be guaranteed. Results vary between individuals, and some tattoos may only partially fade, leaving light “ghosting” or subtle skin texture changes.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, tenderness, blistering, or changes in skin pigmentation are common during healing. Less common risks include pigment darkening, prolonged pigmentation changes, or textural changes, which will be fully discussed during your consultation.

Will I get scarring?

Scarring is a risk of this procedure, however it can be reduced by ensuring you follow the correct aftercare guidelines. We assess the skin at every session and it's reaction to the heat used to ensure the skin can tolerate it. If there are scars present already from your tattoo these will remain, or may become visible as the tattoo fades.

Can you remove coloured tattoos?

Yes! We can remove both black and coloured tattoos using different laser lenses. It is important to note that coloured ink usually requires more sessions and can be more resistant to laser removal, and again complete removal cannot be guaranteed.
